When you become a Director - a manager of managers - there are some new rules to learn. Starting with how to build trust with your manager directs.

New Directors tend to continue managing everyone in their org the way they managed their individual contributor directs when they were only a manager. This is normal, but it's still a mistake, because Directors aren't managing everyone, they're only managing the managers. We have to let our managers manage. And that means "having their backs", as the saying goes.
