hi, what tools do you use to forecast your resource usage when managing multiple projects with the same project team?

Most software packages (like MS Project) can do that.

What are you using today?

pm1512,
if you have multiple projects with the same team, I think your last problem is forecasting resources usage: context switch, overload, priorities are usually the enemy.

I suggest seeing the problem from a different view and use a time-boxed approach: google for Scrum.

i've heard about scrum but never had the chance to look at it. How can scrum helps in forecasting?

SCRUM is a very pragmatic and effective 'framework'.

Scrum encourages participants to work in time-constrained increments.

Having multiple datapoints that can be measured in terms of "we did this much work in this much time" can help to create forecasts.
