Emily Spencer is the Manager of Clinical Informatics at MidMichigan Health, a mid-size integrated healthcare delivery system in Northeast Michigan and has had a winding career to get to where she is today. She graduated with a degree in environmental engineering from Michigan Technological University and spent the first six years of her career consulting on site assessments and underground storage tank remediation. Engineering didn't strike a passion for her and she returned to college to graduate with a degree in nursing. Emily worked as a bedside nurse for several years before joining the hospital's clinical quality team as a quality abstractor and spent some time working on process improvement projects. Concurrently, Emily earned a Masters of Nursing: Healthcare Administration from Loyola – New Orleans.

Emily was recruited by the health system to participate in the project team to replace their electronic medical record (EMR) platform. This was her first experience in Information Technology working as a RN Application Analyst implementing the Epic EMR. Following the system install, Emily was promoted to Supervisor and then Manager of Clinical Informatics. She leads a team of 14 IT analysts who support, build, maintain, and grow the EMR for a health system that has grown 60% over the last five years.

Emily lives in Midland, MI with her husband of 24 years and they have two daughters in college. Their oldest attends University of Michigan pursuing her Master's degree and their youngest daughter is in her sophomore year at Loyola - Chicago. Emily and her husband are active and enjoying travelling and look forward to doing more once college costs subside.

Hi. I've been doing some pre-conference prep and I have  seen references to virtual Speaker Series meetings that resulted from M1. Is there location where I can see the recordings? That way I'll be most up to date on what this group has been discussing.

If, instead, you think it's better for me to wait for the M2 Speaker Series, I'll do that.

Thank you!

Hello Glynn,

We are looking forward to meeting you in a couple weeks! Unfortunately, the Speaker Series videos are no longer available to view at this time. These calls were provided monthly since Covid postponed the conference multiple times. They are not needed for any pre-conference prep.

Please let me know if you have any other questions! See you in Chicago.

Donna Carr is a Director of Engineering for the FPGA subdiscipline of Electrical Engineering in the Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) segment of L3Harris technologies in Palm Bay, Florida.  L3Harris is the 6th largest defense contractor in the United States, and the SAS segment specializes in mission solutions for space and airborne domains with defense, intelligence and commercial applications. Donna graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS in Computer Engineering and a minor in Computer Science.  While at Virginia Tech she participated in the co-op program and had three semester long internships at NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center in Greenbelt Maryland. Upon graduation, Donna joined IBM as a logic designer, developing the latest and greatest PowerPC embedded microprocessors.

Donna decided to take a break from her engineering career when she became a mother, and has two grown and nearly flown children. Her son Alex is a Mechanical Engineer that graduated in May is working full time in Tampa FL.  Her daughter Taryn is a sophomore in college studying Advertising.

Donna returned to work when her children became school aged, and by that time Donna was living in Melbourne FL.  She was hired by (then) Harris as an FPGA design engineer where she had been continued to grow in her engineering career.  She went back to college and got her Masters in Engineering Management and her M.B.A.  She transitioned into Project Engineering roles, leading multi-million dollar development programs and interfacing with customers.  When L3 and Harris merged, Donna transitioned away from program execution and into functional management, where she led an FPGA department of 85 engineers, including 12 group leaders.  Three weeks ago, she was offered the opportunity to be the director of engineering for FPGA development, and now oversees four FPGA departments and over 300 FPGA engineers for L3Harris SAS.

Donna and her husband John have been married for 14 years and love to travel and do home improvement projects.  Lately they’ve been busy focusing more on home improvements (thank you, COVID), but are very much looking forward to getting back to traveling once things settle down in the world.

Angel Wileman is an Engineering Manager at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI, affectionately called "Sweerie" by the employees). She manages a team of engineers and technicians who perform thermofluids research for government and industry, on a contract basis. The projects that come through SwRI include technical challenges in deep sea all the way to deep space. Prior to personnel management, Angel was a project manager in the Fluids Engineering group where she designed and fabricated test stands for fluids research, created safety training content for customers, and other fun projects.

Angel didn't jump straight into research...she spent part of her previous life as a manufacturing engineer for Applied Materials, working in the PVD chamber section. Clean rooms and supplier quality filled her days before she returned to school for a M.S in thermofluid systems from her alma mater, the University of Texas at Austin.

Angel has two small(ish) kids with her husband. They live in New Braunfels, TX where every day is a vacation and life is good.

I'm delighted to see so many familar names here, and can't wait to see everyone in person soon! I've been a listener & member since 2007 -- though it's been a few years since I was active in the MT Forums, I'm still a devotee and have rolled out the Trinity at four companies. (If my name seems familar, Mark had generously shared my resume with the entire TITIT mailing list in early 2014 after a layoff, and the MT community responded with so many job leads, encouraging emails, and phone calls of support... literally awesome.)

Currently serving as Senior Director of Implementation, Analysis, and Planning at SDV International, a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business based in Alexandria, VA; my primary client is HealthNet Federal Services, which supports 2.5 million TRICARE beneficiaries and providers in the USA western region. Our team provides technical support and application development projects for TRICARE systems, and we've grown from 20 developers to 100+ over the last 6 months.

Manager Tools has been a guiding force from my first analyst job with the Department of Veterans Affairs, through the transition into management at Coventry Health Care (now Aetna), then into senior leadership with The Advisory Board Company, a short startup detour, and now in the most challenging engagement of my career. Couldn't have done it without MT, and am excited to share the journey into executive leadership with you all.

I live in Chicago with my husband, Steven, and our cranky middle-aged Ragdoll cat, Mythasisyphus. We're avid readers, hikers, foodies, movie buffs, and (yep, I'll admit it) devoted D&D players.

For myself, the best thing about M-Con, getting to go. The hard part, realizing it's over. Wish I met everyone. It's truly been my honor to have time with so many dedicated fellow MT folks over these few astounding days. I learned, laughed, and won a lot of pool.

Is it really over though? See you at the next gathering! https://www.linkedin.com/in/markbentsen/ in Dallas.

All best wishes,
