Want to get peoples take on if they would rather have a superb leader or manager. I am in the military and the military places enormous focus on LEADERSHIP. Leadership this, Leadership that. I think we place too much focus on trying to build and find great leaders and we ignore the manager factor. We end up with senior folks who may be able to motivate personnel, but are not so great at getting much done.

Management vs Leadership
Hi Roxon,
My Simple (Very Simple) distinction between Leadership & Management.
Managers Manage Process,
Leaders Lead People.
Managers are appointed to their positions,
Leaders are appointed by the people that choose to follow them.
I would think the Military had lots of Managers, as following the process and not thinking makes for very predictable outcomes.
Leadership skills kick in when people don't want to follow the process.

Guy
