Is there a way to close if, during the interview, you're told you might be better suited for a more senior position?
During a phone interview with an internal recruiter she brought up another,(more senior) position that she felt I would be better suited for. It was a retained search so she didn't have the posting, but she wants me to interview with the hiring manager to determine if I'd be a good fit. I saw it strange to ask for an offer on the junior position so didn't close.
Was this the right move, or is there a way I could have closed, leaving the more senior position as a possibility?

Regardless of the lack of a close with the recruiter, the next interview is Monday morning with the hiring manager. I'll be sure to close with him!
Michael, mentioning the
Michael, mentioning the senior position may have been a dangle. I think you could still have closed and emphasized the company, with something like the following:
"Just one more thing, Bob. I want an offer from XYZ Corp. I've been really impressed with everyone I've met here, and after the conversation we've just had I can tell XYZ is a great fit for me. I'll be able to use skill A and develop skills B and C with a market leader. I'm interested in growing my responsibilities and I'm very excited to know there are opportunities to do that in multiple roles at XYZ."
Good Hiring Manager Interview
The interview with the hiring manager went very well. He's an intelligent, energetic man and I can easily see myself working for him. And for those of you wondering... yes, I did close with him. Other interviews are being arranged.
No, I don't think this has the earmarks of a dangle. It's an either/or proposition. One position reports to the manager I interviewed with yesterday, the other reports to a different person altogether. Of course... the potential for a dangle exists, but at the end of the day, either position would be exciting.
