Greetings Everyone,

At our last Meet-Up Kate assigned me the task of scheduling and leading our next one. January would be the month we should meet. So let me toss out a couple of dates and see how that works for everyone. Let's try to stay away from a Wednesday evening if at all possible. So how does one of the following dates look to you all? January 6, 8, 20, 22 or any Monday in the month?

I'll start looking for a location close to a Metro Stop. If you have any ideas let me know.

This is basically the same message I posted on the Fall Meet-up Thread, but BJ thought this was a better way to go.

Thank you,

Dave

Check for goal completed! :)

I want to recommend that we avoid any dates around Inauguration. Early January is tough for me with end of year/beginning of new contract year items. I could attend something the last week in January.

I believe I can be available for any of those dates.

By then, Colin will be at the ripe old age of almost two months, so I'm sure I can duck out for one night of awesomeness.

Thanks for setting this up!

Thanks BJ. I was watching CNN this morning and remembered that the 20th is probably not the best date with it being the inauguration. I'm sure it will be hard to get around the city on that day. So we may want to look at the other dates.

Thanks,

Dave

Oops, I didn't see Ann's posting. I agree about the inauguration, so let's look at the following week. So how would the 26th or the 29th look to everyone?

Thanks,

Dave

I've gotten enough feedback I think to plan on the last week in January as a time for our meet-up.  So now let's narrow in on a date.  Let's shoot for January 29th.  How does that sound to everyone?  I'll start working on the place.

Also, WOW on the new look and organization of the website.  Mike & Mark you guys did and AWESOME job.  It was worth the wait.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Everyone,

I work in DC and if work and travel allows I'd like to join you for your meet up. So far the 29th looks good for me.

Greetings Everyone,

I thought it not best to mess with success, and since last time was great, let's meet at the same place. So we have reservations at McCormick & Schmidt's in Bethesda for 7:00 pm. The address and phone # are as follows:

7401 Woodmont Avenue
Bethesda, Maryland 20814
(301) 961-2626

I appreciated Kate's agenda so thought it would be a good one to follow again.

1. Welcome/Introductions if there are newcomers (7:00 p.m.) - Who you are, where you're from, when and why you discovered Manager Tools.

2. Update from last meeting (7:15) – Have you overcome any of the challenges you mentioned in the last meeting? How did you do it and what was the outcome?

3. Your most powerful manager tool(s) (8:00 p.m.) Which tools have been the most successful/effective for you? Why? Are there any that you've tried that haven't worked?

4. Adjourn (9:00 p.m. or whenever)(Obviously I copied and pasted your agenda Kate!)

The educator in me wants to add a dimension. If you have read a book on management lately, perhaps you could share a little bit about the book and how it compares to what we are learning through Manager-Tools. We'll squeeze that topic in if discussion slows.

I am looking forward to the 29th. See you all there. How about responding to this post so I know how many to plan for?

Thanks,

Dave

Count me in. Since our last meet-up, I've read:

  • "First, Break All the Rules,"
  • "Strengthfinder 2.0" (the sequel to "Now, Discover Your Strengths),
  • "Lead the Field",
  • "Getting Things Done",
  • and

  • "The Effective Executive."

You can find all those titles off The Personal MBA's Reading List. I am ready to share!

I tried to get as much reading done pre-baby as possible.

My reading list post-baby is "Goodnight, Moon."

I haven't "read" any business books since we last met, but I did buy Effective Executive so that should count for something. I have a lot to say about "Goodnight, Moon" though. May I also suggest "Where the Wild Things Are"?

It's recently come to my attention that I'm horrible at hiring. I would like to add that to the agenda and get some input from you guys about interviewing.

Thanks!

I bought Effective Executive - have only gotten a couple of pages in. I tend to start too many books at once!

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 29th.

Dave,

I'm planning on being there.

Wish I had a book to add / recommend. I'm about 75% through "Semper Fi - Business Leadership the Marine Corps Way". A couple good ideas in there . . .

Regards,
Steve

Scubashawn,

The word on the street is that the next one is slated for June-ish. We will definitely post something in the forums. Hope you're able to make it!
