I made the mistake of implementing several new initiatives during my first 90 days. I'm having trouble with one of my direct reports. She's a High C and I'm a High I/D. Our communication isn't the best as you can understand.

She is a very good employee that I want to keep. Any suggestions on how to move forward with her? Our one-on-ones are strained to say the least.

Slow down, be clear, and tune into how your behaviors must change to improve communication with your direct. When you provide affirming feedback do so privately and affirm behaviors or work product demonstrating competence. Be patient.

Naturally high C personalities tend to prefer subdued communication styles (limited facial expressions -- smaller gestures) and logical/precise/focused discussions.

Have you listened to the DISC series of podcasts?
