I was relocated by a very small software development company in September of 1997. There were 2 people and I was hired to start up a sales division. The two folks were never around and I was essentially in the dark. They felt that it was more important for me to learn about their specific software development types than it was for me to go out and build a team.

11 months later, they were bought by a large systems integrator (of which NO positions existed for me). The gap on my resume is 9/97 - 3/99. I was out of work for a couple of months on both ends of the time frame.

Hi Yahtzee.. I read your post last night and lost it this morning.. sorry!

Can you just clarify - are you saying there are a couple of months gaps either side of this job, or that you're missing this job off your resume and that causes a gap from september 97 to march 99?

The latter. The company is obviously no longer around (looking back, I dont know that anyone could have found out anything about them anyway given their size).

Yahtzee,

you can't miss jobs off your resume. Apart from being morally wrong, you could be sacked if the company finds out you lied about your history.

There are good ways of describing bad jobs - for instance I worked in the public sector for 9 months and got sacked. Now I say, I really wanted to work in the public sector, but when I did I found it wasn't for me.

But you can't lie. Not ever.

Not wanting to lie at all. Net net is that you are saying to put it back on my resume?

Yes.

Please, put it back on your resume.

Thanks. Just for clarification, it has come up each time and I have been completely honest about the gap. Thanks for the reply.
