I'm new here but I'm wondering you plan on doing a podcast on adapting your coaching or leadership style according to your employee's need. Or do you think there is a better approach to this?

Also, just wondering if anyone has found a reliable resource for these topics other than the basic Blanchard and Hersey info.

I would suggest the Feedback set, followed by the DISC set of podcasts (available to registered users). There are several, start with the oldest first.

I'm saying this making the assumption you've already listened to the coaching podcasts. Together, these say 'it's all about the people, so make it about the people'. Nothing is canned, everything is custom - based on what is important to them, not me.

Does that help? Or am I off-base on the question itself?

The "Improve your feedback" podcast from Feb 2006 is a great overview on customizing based on the person to whom you're communicating.

Yes, I've heard the feedback model, coaching and all the DISC profile podcasts. A pretty good percentage of our managers have the basic feedback skills down, but coach the same way no matter who they are coaching. That's really my target - beyond feedback, how do I get them to adjust their coaching and leadership style to meet the needs of their employees?

Welcome vipmarie,

BLUF: Listen to the four DISC podcasts, and download the DISC overview sheet.

ASSUMPTIONS: That you have listen to the coaching podcast, and the feedback podcast.

Content
The DISC sheet contains a list of which areas different personality types can improve, as well as which affirming/adjusting feedback consequences to focus on to different personality types.

Good luck, and let us know how it works out!

Your managers need to improve their coaching skills. When working to help someone improve their skills, the coaching model is appropriate. As they learn from the model as it is applied to them they'll see how to apply it to their directs.

So, coach the coaches. :)
