I'll be starting a new position on Monday. Recently, I listened to an interview with Michael Watkins (First 90 Days). He suggested trying to setup meetings with key customers ahead of time.

In my interview, I was told that my primary customers are the CEO and the Product Manager.

Does anyone think I'd be coming across as "too eager/naive" to try to setup meetings with them.

Also, while it's a small company, there is a larger parent company in the same office complex. It seems prudent to me to find out if there are stakeholders there as well. And, consequently, try to setup meetings with them also.

What does everyone think? Does it seem overly aggressive to set these things up ahead of time?

Thanks for any advice you might have.

No. I do not think it is too eager.

Listen to the jump starting internal customer relationships podcast and go ahead. I think in the podcast, Mark suggests that 20 is not too many individuals to identify as internal customers.

Good Luck!

Thanks!

I have listened to those Podcasts (several times!). I know that I need to get introduced to my customers and start building those relationships.

My questions is more about doing some of this before I "officially" start.

Have you tied up every loose end in your old role? Perf reviews, status reports, operational manuals, budget updates, etc? If not, get that all done before you consider jumping into the new role.

Great advice John. I have taken care of everything in my old role. Including some informal chats with my manager's peers to make sure I'm leaving on a good note.

Great!

There should be no problem with scheduling the meetings now, to take place after you're in your new role.
