I recently listened to the complete interview series in a weekend while working around the house. The "God's Wheel" story comes up a bunch. Anyone else notice this? It probably was only noticeable when you listen to the casts over a short time window.

Two or three times. It makes a good point.

It comes back to something we see a lot on the boards. A high percentage of people haven't identified their goals. We focus on the easy stuff (How much do I get paid, when's lunch, how 'bout vacation) because it's easy. But grapple with career choice? Wrestle with purpose? Ugh. Too hard.

Consequently a high percentage of people wander through their lives. Wander through their careers. Wander through their marriages. It takes some vision to grab the wheel.

I just wanted to report that I used the interview series - and failed to get the job I was after. However, I felt better prepared, gave my very best interviews ever and found myself in the final rounds. I guess it just wasn't meant to be.
On first listening to M+M's advice I revamped my resume and was ready when a job came up. When I applied it was the first time I'd undergone a 'behavioural based' interview focusing on accomplishments. The Interview Series answer template was the perfect framework that gave me every opportunity to answer strongly, expanding on the accomplishments listed in my resume. Yep - I smiled. Yep - I closed, and I think that's what got me to the finals.
So, even though I didn't 'win', the series is a great investment. Thanks guys. I'll let you know when I succeed.

That's a great way to look at it. One thing from Horstman's Wager was that it's just as important to not offer if the fit isn't right as it is to offer when it is. If you had a competent manager giving the interviews then they may just have seen that it wasn't a good fit. That doesn't mean you weren't qualified. In fact, if you made it to the finals then you most likely were found to be qualified. But, keeping the positive attitude is a huge plus. Good for you! Now, you did remember to send out the Thank You notes, didn't you?

Also if I recall rightly, some of them were recycles of older, free casts which happened to fit nicely in the series, so it might've been Mark using a favourite but in real life he'd spaced it well apart.

The 'jobs with trees and animals' one comes up a lot, along with plenty others.... and it's all good. :)
