I've been trying unsuccessfully to load a picture for my avatar, because it is over 6kb. Several other users have what look like digital photos as their avatar... how did you resize the file?

Thanks,

-Will

Hi Will,
You can quickly and easily resize images with photoshop or paintshop or if you dont have that software you can download "image resizer" from the windows website.

If you are on Windows, then I highly recommend:

http://www.getpaint.net/features.html

Once you get it installed, open the image you want and click on the menu Image and then choose the option Resize. This software is freeware. If you use it a lot, I do recommend making a donation.

Good luck!

Steve

P.S. There is probably a simple way to do this on a Mac but I've never done it on my Mac so I don't know the procedure. ;-)

If you're using a mac, open the photo in iPhoto and click on the constrain option at the bottom and go to custom. From there, you'll be able to resize the photo to the dimensions of your choice.

Get paint is a GREAT program that I used to use often. Highly recommend that on the windows side.

iResize for mac is a great tiny app for resizing photos:

So many mac users, so little time. I do it the lazy way, it goes like this: 'honey, I want an avatar, this size, this material, can you do that while I'm at work?' and the full time artist takes care of it.

I'd personally recommend gimp. Being an ex web developer, it's got all the smarts of photoshop with none of the financial outlay, ie free

You can download it from their site @ http://www.gimp.org/ ..

Their blurb states.. GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages.

Well worth a try :D
