Hi there,
I am a division manager in a Germany-based high tech company in the factory automation business. As our business is global I am always looking for opportunities to improve my English - your podcast is one of these.
I enjoy listening to your podcast during my weekly running exercise. Unfortuneatly one episode is not long enough as my regular running distance takes about 50 minutes 8)
My professional background is mainly financials, planning and controlling (as I learned the job title "controller" is more used in Germany than in the U.S.).
Beside my normal responsibilities I am currently leading an organizational project in our group to improve our customer project management process.

Finally! Someone telling us our casts aren't long ENOUGH! We've actually heard from some who say, "my commute is 22 minutes and won't you please keep your casts to that length?"
Glad you're with us, and thrilled you're getting value from our work.

I say use as much time as you need for your podcasts Mark. I understand that it may be easy to lose your thoughts if pausing and resuming in the middle of one cast, but I frequently do it and it really doesn't bother me.
Now I hope we don't hear that someone wants the casts be 5 hours long because that's the length of his/her weekly plane trip :D

Take all the time you'd need!
Yuo've got a wealth of info, and my commute is just over an hour long... I can usually listen to 1 or 2 casts each morning, depending on if I want to replay it for something coming up (for example, I just re-listened to your Meal casts this morning, as I have a dinner coming up, and your party cast last week, as mine is coming up this Friday).
And welcome, codereader! :)

Thanks guys! I still think some of our best work is on the annual review casts, which took FOUR installments.

Mark / Mike,
from my point of view take all the time you need: I enjoy listening as your English is not so hard for me to understand and because all the topics are treated in a light - enough way (not talking about the contempt, I'm talking about the form).

Grazie! We always talk about length and depth issues, and I regularly worry about talking too fast.

An idea,
If Michael says it in the intro. ‘’This cast is 42 minutes long…’’

Sorry, but I dont understand this statement :?:

The discussion above was all about the ideal length of the podcast and if your commuting time would fit to it. To me this doesn’t matter, although it might be helpful –for some- to know at the start of the podcast how many minutes it will take to the end …

Thanks for the clarification, your right the runnning time might be helpful to those that have MP3 players with basic functionality

24/7's fine by me, not sure how Mike and Mark would cope with that though.
But seriously.... I like 1 hour, a nice round figure. ( I have a 15-25 min commute).
30 mins is good if you are making some notes. I usually listen once and then if its an extra good cast ( they are all good) I rerun and note key points.
Good work guys.

As I have a long commute, and spend about an hour before I leave for work listening to casts, I will never complain if the show runs longer then 30 minutes. However I understand why people say 30 minutes top as it breaks stuff into easy chunks.
I've run into times that I've needed to chop a show into two (on way into work and back) and that works well too. So for those who have less time the us long commuters, a longer show cut in two shouldn't be to bad ;)

I forget that not everyone has an iPod or similar device that displays the length of the podcast (ugh). Thanks for helping me identify a poor assumption on my part.
I don't always know how long the podcast is prior to recording the intro ... depends upon the order in which I edit the parts of the cast. With few exceptions though, this seems reasonable. Thanks for the suggestion!
