Mark/Mike-

Just wanted to post a big thanks. This morning I had a breakfast meeting with my boss (President). Both of our schedules are hectic at times and we got together to catch up on a variety of issues.

He ended the meeting with the question, "What can I do to help you?"

I knew instantly my reply. "Can we have a weekly regularly scheduled 30 minute O3?"

The answer, "Absolutely. Put in on the schedule."

Thanks - every day I use info from either the podcasts or these boards.

Thanks, Gary.

There are some other threads that I'll need to comment on where the general theme is "How do I get my boss to do this stuff?" My general response is, "Don't, focus on yourself first" (something that both Chris and Eric mentioned in their responses on some other topics).

You set a good example -- be prepared to respond appropriately when asked "What can I do to help?"

thanks again,
Mike

Hi Mark and Mike,

I finally set up one-on-ones with my direct reports, and I used a lot of your sample email. I wanted to share with you the first response I got from one of my directs

Judging from this email, it sounds like you are developing some VERY good management skills! I'm impressed!

As far as time for these meetings, you are much busier than I am at this point. How bout you fit me into your schedule...as long as it isn't too early!

You have to promise though, that thru these meetings, we get to know you as well as you get to know us!

Keep up the good work! I'm glad to have you as a supervisor.

***So thank you very much! I've got too much grad school debt to go back to school, so Manager Tools is working as my own personal MBA. Thanks again,

Ross
