I'm an independent researcher and receive funding from a private donor. So far I've gotten two chunks of money, one for two months of work in Jan/Feb, one for four months of work from Jun to Sep. For each of these I've sent a thank you note. For future chunks, is it best to always send a thank you note, or would I better stop at some point? After all, we don't send thank you notes for salary or gig payments.

I don't mind writing them. What I don't want is come across like the person who writes ‘thank you’ ten times in one note.

My idea is to send one more note for the next chunk. Thereafter I would just write a slightly longer thank you email, or thank the funder in person if we have a meeting scheduled at a favourable time. Does this sound right?
