Has anyone heard of or used this "feedback" process before?

I am interesting in any feedback that you have.

In team led performance management

Stop, Start, Continue and Change is an activity that can be used in a performance management setting.

During each meeting the team focuses on one team member and provides feedback for them. The team is to concentrate on four things about that member using the Stop, Start, Continue or change theme.

For the first element Stop they tell that team member the things they should stop doing and could improve upon as a manager. For example, if the manager does not allow their employees to make decisions on their own then the manager is not properly preparing their employees to be managers themselves.

The team then uses the same process for Start

For Continue and Change where they share the individuals best practices. They give the subject of the review something they should start doing to make them a better manager.

To end the session the team leaders provide feedback on something the manager does well and should continue to do.

Thanks!

This method is commonly used in project management, quality assurance, and process improvement as a means to put some structure around retrospectives/post-mortems for projects that have completed.  The overall guidance in that world is to focus on the "what" and "how" of the development lifecycle, rather than who did what.  Trying to apply this model to an individual's performance, in front of and by a group of their coworkers, sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Thank you for your response. My initial reaction was the same as yours. It helps to know the origin of this methodology.
