If I ever think anyone needs to have a better relationship with someone else in the organisation, I'll recommend they have a one-on-one style conversation. I often refer to them as "catchups" rather than "one-on-ones", but the format is essentially the same -- talk about things of interest to the other person, get some more relaxed tidbits of info about what's happening in another part of the org. I've recommended my boss and the part-time on-site founder do catchups with various people "on the coalface" to keep themselves in touch with the detail work, too.
