I started listening to Manager Tools podcasts last year by using the public podcast feed.  After a few weeks (and suggestions from the podcasts themselves) I registered for the members-only feeds.

Upon doing so, I noticed that I was now receiving duplicates of podcasts that were on both the public and members only feeds.  The solution was easy:  delete the public feed and keep only the members only.

Fast forward to this month.  After keeping careful notes on all podcasts, I justified the Premium Content expense to my boss during a 121.  Now I have the same problem all over.

I have many podcasts yet to listen to in the "members-only" but the premium feed has the same ones.

So what is my question?  Is there any way to turn off the updates for the members only feed in iTunes such that I no longer get updates but the ones already downloaded remain?  I would then only update the premium feed and listen to all new podcasts from there.

Any help/advice would be welcomed.

That's easy ... select the feed in question within iTunes, click the "Settings" button at the bottom of the screen, and then set "Check for new episodes" to Manual.

See the attached image (Podcast Settings) for a visual.

Perfect solution.  Using this, I can complete listening to those podcasts already downloaded from the "members only."

Thank you,.

PMears,

I went through the same transition you describe. As I added new feeds, I would Unsubscribe to the previous feed. This kept the content from my earlier downloads and picked up new content from my new feed subscription. If I deleted the older feeds, I would also lose access to those already downloaded episodes and have to re-download them from the new feed.

Using Smart Playlists, iTunes could merge episodes from any of the feeds into a single playlist. This allowed me to catch up on back episodes and not think about if I downloaded it with the regular feed, Members Only feed, or Premium Content feed.

Of course with Enhanced Podcast feed for my iPhone, I have gone back and redownloaded all the earlier episodes so I had the show slides in the same file as the audio.

I thought that the "Check for new episodes" manual setting would halt iTunes' automatic downloads across all of my podcasts since it appears above the podcast drop down menu in the Settings window. I still want iTunes automatically downloading Premium Content and not again downloading from the regular feed. My iTunes computer stays on 24/7 so when I get home from work there is always fresh, hot podcasts downloaded and ready to sync during dinner.
