Good morning,  

First, thanks to Mike and Mark for your service to this community of leaders.  I discovered Manager Tools some time ago, and have found it to be an outstanding source of information and guidance.  

Likewise, thanks for this forum.  It's reassuring to see that I'm not the only person who struggles with some of the issues described here.  I wanted to take a moment and introduce myself in order to become more active in some discussions.  

I have served as a manager of software development teams for many years now.  I have been with my current company for three years, and was at my previous employer for ten years.  And, I was promoted to Director earlier in the year.  My current organization includes teams distributed over the US, as well as India.  I'm based in Austin, Texas with one of our teams.  

My leadership style has been strongly influenced by the books of John Maxwell (21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, et. al.) and I coach everyone on our teams to develop their leadership skills with these principles, even if they don't aspire to management roles.
