BLUF: How can I get better resumes and interviews out of veterans?

As a veteran and US Army Reservist, I've taken a personal interest in recruiting and hiring fellow veterans, even though it's WAY out of my normal job duties.  I know that vets bring a very unique and valuable skill set to the civilian world and I want to capitalize on that.  As I've begun attending career fairs and creating contacts I've noticed several things:

  • vets struggle to communicate military skills/accomplishments in a language that civilians speak
  • resumes are poorly written and often 3-4 pages long
  • Agencies that are "assisting" vets are often providing poor advice & horrible resumes
