Over the weekend a friend of mine turned me to post about the idea of managers creating essentially a README document for their direct reports. I would have normally discounted the idea, but one of the items listed was conducting 1 on 1's with your directs. I like the idea of clarifying how I like to work with my directs, but having a KB document of how I like to work seems to be confining.

What would you do if your manager/boss gave you a document like this?

Good lord, I really dislike them. I think Camille Fournier captured my thoughts on manager READMEs here: https://medium.com/@skamille/i-hate-manager-readmes-20a0dd9a70d0

In a nutshell, I think Manager READMEs have huge potential to go badly, because of the power differential between manager and direct. There's just no replacement for getting to know each other through ... interaction, and building trust the traditional way.
