BLUF: What is the difference between a letter of interest and a cover letter? When a job announcement requests a letter of interest, should I submit a cover letter following the MT guidance?
Background: I've recently seen several job announcements that ask for a "letter of interest" rather than a cover letter. One interpretation is that these announcements are seeking something longer and more detailed than a standard one page cover letter. However, I am also sensitive to the fact that a one page cover letter is best.
Interestingly, the positions that I've seen requesting this also require applicants to answer a series of supplemental questions in addition to the letter of interest.
