Interview for Overseas job

Hi

I'm an Italian mechanical engienner, and I'm been interviewd from an Itlaian company that has just started operation in Philadelphia.

They offer to relocate me there, but they don't seem really organized for the relocation benefits. For example, I enquire them for the known issue of medical coverage in USA for a foreigner, and they could not tell me anything. I've enuired for my retirement plan and they were not of big help.

Can anybody give me some info on these topics? (mmedical coverage, and retirement plan)

I'm also negotiating a net salary of 3000 euro per month and it seem that they are very reluctant.

Help much appreciate.

Hi Pengue
I can relate my experience, although it is different then yours.  I am a US citizen living in Germany as an expatriate. I have been there for 8 years.  My medical is covered from the US side, so I pay my medical bills here and submit them for repayment to the health coverage supplier.  My retirement is the US 401k.  I have paid the US social security up till last august, which was switched to the German equivalent.  This was due to my time here in Germany.
The questions that I think are important for you in addition are:
- Will you be an expatriate?
- Do you have children?  pre school children schooling is extremly expensive.  US about 500 USD per child, compared to 80 Euros a month.
- How long are you planning on being there?  If it is only 2-5 years then I recommend that you stay with your home country retirement.
- What are they going to pay you in? USD or Euros?  I would ask to have some portion in USD and some portion in Euros.  Avoid the exchange rate exposure as much as possible. 
Hopefully, this give you some things to think about.

Thanks for your reply.
I will not be under any expatriate status, the company told will be completely independent.
I've one children of 5yo, and I'm thinking would be good for her and to my family to grow up in a country like USA.
I think I will be able to grow professional and I really love to communacate in English.
 
Of course everything depend now on how economically will be good for me.
I  got some info on the healt insurance ($500) and on the renting ($1200).
