Let me start by stating that I have been listening to Manager Tools podcasts for several years, but I am only just now a new manager with 2, soon to be 3, direct reports.  I have been using the Trinity Rollout e-mails as a guide for starting O3s with my directs, and I have learned that I am soon to get one more direct report as a result of a reorganization, possibly this week.

[If this has been covered in a podcast, I don't recall which one.  If it was already covered in the forums, a quick search didn't turn up anything.]

My question: What is the best approach I should take with my new DR?  Should I start right away with O3s, or should I wait 90 days after he becomes my DR?  As a comparison, I have been holding weekly O3s with my current DRs and am just now at the point where I can introduce the Feedback Model.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Steve

Send the introductory email and alert your new DR that this is normal and how you manage. Don't wait 90 days to start O3s with your new direct. Proceed with feedback as you were planning with the other directs. Build the relationship with your new direct via O3s and proceed with feedback as the relationship develops.

Sounds like you got this Steve. No need to over analyze it.  You'll find the MT 'Trinity' transformational for you and your team.

I was planning on doing what you suggested if I didn't hear anything from anyone here... After all, I didn't wait 90 days after getting my first two DRs, I just let them know that "This is how I manage".

I appreciate your feedback on the matter.

Take care,

Steve
