 Hi All,

I listened to the two part airline travel basics and airline seats podcast yesterday while relaxing in my hotel room. I do not currently fly on business but will shortly be making short 1 hour trips from my local airport to two different locations. Unfortunately the frequent flier information does not apply to me however I will be staying in the same hotel on each trip I make.

The podcast got me thinking about the various hotels I stay at and how I could apply the same general tips in this area.

Do you have any general hints or tips that may help in this area?

EDIT: In an effort to make sure that there was no frequent flier programme on offer I checked and found out there was! I am now a member.

Traveler profile - our travel agent also gathers our hotel preferences.  For example: non-smoking rooms, king beds, not on ground floor, etc.  Many hotels also have loyalty programs, much like the airlines, where you accumulate benefits based on number of stays, etc.

I'm sure Mark and Mike mentioned it, but it bears repeating - include a printed copy of your hotel information, including confirmation number, in your travel folder.  I've had several instances where they couldn't find my reservation, the hotel was "full", and I still ended up in a nice room because I had a printed copy of the confirmation.

Develop relationships with the staff at the hotel, car rental agency, etc.  A number of years ago I made a lot of trips to the Dallas area and the staff at both places went out of their way to make sure things went smoothly for me, along with numerous upgrades, etc. before they really had "tiered" their loyalty programs.  It was good customer service from individuals who recognized me week after week after week...  ("Good morning Mike.  You had a Land Rover last week and we just received a new Mustang convertible this morning.  I've set it aside for you.  Will that meet your needs?")
