Hi,

I am re-listening to the O3 casts, after recently listening to the meetings podcast.

With the O3 agend, I am assuming that you don't structure it like this

9:00am Your time

9:10am my time

9:20am  Career/Growth/Dev

9:30 end

Even though that style is how you do every other meeting.  My assumption is based on the fact that this is the one meeting where you don't mind if they run over.

Regards

Douglas.

My experience is that, yes, they do tend to run over with some people. But, I do use the 10-10-10 agenda approach to set expectations. Especially with the newer employees. Generally, it does work better over time to have the structured approach. It's efficient, requires prep from both manager and direct and ensures that the direct gets enough air-time.

It depends on what you mean by "you don't mind if they run over."  You mean if they run over their 10 minute slot?  No you don't care about that.  But you do care about ending the meeting on time.

...But we don't handle agendas as rigorously in O3s as we do in other meetings.  If they go over - since the purpose of the meeting is THEM - it's okay.  As we suggest, 80% of the time the meeting will be 15/15.  But we recommend keeping 10/10/10 in your head for those times when you do finish in 10 each, so you won't forget to discuss the future.
