Guys

How do you handle deal with an employee who when doing the first coaching session and you ask about resources they could use, sits there silent and "um"s a lot, even after you've made a few suggestions.

Do you just provide some, or do you have a method that's good to get those creative brain cells going, even for High S and Cs.

Thanks,

Glenn

Have you made it clear that you expect THEM to achieve the coaching goal?

I wouldn't take it too hard.  In a first coaching session, they might not really understand what is expected.  Be clear they are going to achieve the goal.  I generally let them mull it over, gently suggest a few ideas & ask for a response.  That might be enough to help them get started or maybe you've handed out enough ideas for today.  I have one DR that gets very overwhelmed if you give too many suggestions.  She works best with 2 ideas max.

Also, let them know in advance that they will need to have thought of additional resources when you review.  That has worked well for me.

Rich, I really like your response (without having engaged the reasoning part of my brain), are you a High D like me? :-)

Acao162, maybe I need to simply let the first session be not idea and see if it needs to be reworked on a second session.

Thanks,

Glenn
