I was laid off last year and the recession has decimated my profession...
I'm an Architect.

Increasingly, a large number of the job postings are being posted anonymously.  To top it off the listings are becoming extremely  vague.

My resume(s) follows the MT guidance and I am highly qualified.   How do you follow up or separate your self from the pile in these situations? How do you avoid the "Black Hole" ? If I type THIMC one more time.....

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi, Thom. I'm sorry to hear of your struggles.

This earlier thread covered "How to apply to a real person when the help-wanted ad doesn't give you a name"

http://www.manager-tools.com/forums-5369

Of course, all the advice there presumes you at least know the name of the company to which you're applying. I realize that sometimes, you can't even get that much. Sometimes temp agencies or recruiting firms will write the job ads and withhold the name of the hiring company so you can't end-run around them and their commissions. Other times, a firm might have recently laid off many of its staff, and wishes to re-hire newer/younger/cheaper talent without taking FlaK for such a cold move.

I'm of the opinion that firms who post job ads anonymously are only hurting themselves. Hiring isn't a masquerade ball, or at least it shouldn't be. But good idea or not, a lot of firms are doing it. If they really insist on staying anonymous, then "TWIMC" may end up being the best you can do.
