Part 1 of our guidance on how to prepare for being furloughed.

As we write this in June 2020, we are still reading reports of tens of thousands of employees being furloughed every day. Furloughs are beneficial to companies, because they allow for labor costs to be drastically reduced without having to pay severance and other layoff costs. They also allow for employee numbers to be ramped up quickly when conditions improve.

But what about for the employee? What do YOU do? In this guidance we're going to tell you what to do WHEN you've been furloughed. And if you haven't been furloughed yet, keep listening, because we're going to tell you what to do BEFORE you're furloughed too. Don't assume you won't be and stop listening. Furlough preparation is like hurricane preparation. You do it, even as you hope the hurricane will miss you.
