I'm currently in the process of interviewing with a good large corporation. I've interviewed with the recruiter, the hiring manager, and the team that I would be a part of. All that's left is to interview with the hiring manager's boss and to take their standard skills assessment test. I believe that I'm on a very short list of candidates (possibly a list of one).
However, yesterday a new position was posted by that company that I think I am more qualified for and would enjoy more. I'm not sure what to do. I'd hate for people to think I've been wasting their time and to build any bad feelings. Any advice?

Stay the course, and...
...consider asking how you'll interact with this newly-posted position. Like all questions directed at a recruiter or hiring manager, you want them to picture you doing the work. You don't need to ask if you can have that position. The recruiter or hiring manager will immediately consider that possibility. If they don't ask you, they've already decided you wouldn't fit.

Tough one
This really isn't a question of can he get the new position or how to conduct himself during an interview. It's more how can he tap dance through the political minefield of even applying for the new position since it's two positions, one company.
I don't know about this one. This sounds a little dicey.
Maybe I'm being naive, but
Maybe I'm being naive, but why is "I saw this other position opened up and I was also interested in it. One of the many reasons being the contact I've had with the people here so far. I actively want to work here." not a valid minefield disarming technique?
I mean, it sounds like it's the truth... I've had a few good times using the truth on people. :P
