This happened to me!

Can't believe there's a cast about a scenario that happened to me about a year ago.  I was actually able to work with my direct who didn't get the promotion and he is now promoted also!  In the beginning, he was not a happy camper, but we worked through it and I gave him the opportunity to step up and take on a very difficult project which gave him the visibility he had previously lacked.  When the next promotion opportunity came up, he was the best candidate and got it.  It was an amazing experience and I now have a lasting professional relationship with him.

Being Disgruntled May be Good

I have to wonder about a direct not being disgruntled if not promoted. If the direct truly wanted the promotion, would it not be natural for her to be disgruntle? This not to say it is okay to act on those feelings, but if the person was not at least a little upset for not getting the promotion would you not wonder about their commitment to personnel success. If we are not committed to personnel success, how can we be committed to the success of the company.
