Too long...

Excellent show, but seems to me that a series of four parts is too much, don't you think? After all a single subject has consumed almost 10% of the content of all the year, which is not very rewarding if you are a premium member. Just my opinion.

rleal, It's a big and

rleal,

It's a big and sensitive topic. If we could have covered it in less time and still ensured that we covered it in sufficient detail to ensure listeners who do have angry bosses don't get themselves into trouble, we would have.

That said, we always appreciate hearing your thoughts. Sorry our choices here didn't work for you. Hopefully, we'll make it up in the future.

Best Regards,
Mike

Or 2% of all time...

Rleal-

Those folks who have an angry and demeaning boss have been asking for this show for years, and there are HUNDREDS of them.  Sorry this didn't work for you, and here's to hoping that you never need it.

The content is out of question...

 Mike / Mark,

Thank you for your responses. The importance, quality and usefulness of the content is of course out of question. That is why I began my comment saying that it was excellent. The issue is with the distribution of it. I think that following a conversation in pieces for over two weeks is not very efficient. Maybe you would like to make an experiment and download a show, movie or similar content, break it down in four pieces and hear each one with one week of difference. I think that you will see that it gets harder each week to keep the thread of the conversation.  So I have the following suggestions:

  • Deliver longer episodes for these big topics (I think the last show -20 minutes or so- could have perfectly being distributed among the other 3 parts).
  • Put in the title of each show the tag "part X of X", so we can decide if we should wait for the complete series to be available before start listening in order to get more continuity.

Again, this is just my opinion and it may differ from that of your other HUNDREDS of listeners. So please feel free to consider it or discard it. I will still be a very big fan of your shows.

Greetings,
Rodrigo.

Question About Bad Bosses

Mark & Mike,

Great job with the podcasts!  You're the mentors I've never had.  Here's a question that I don't think you've covered in your podcasts on bad bosses.  If you do have a bad boss, one who's so bad that you feel you don't want to work for them anymore, what do you tell your co-workers when they ask why you're leaving?  Also, what do you tell the people who interview you for new jobs?

In my situation, I work for a great company with excellent benefits but my manager is the "boss from hell."  Things are so bad working for this person that I'm experiencing health problems from all of the stress I'm under.  I know you guys have an eighteen-month rule but I'm not going to stay any longer than a year.  My co-workers already know how bad a manager this person is but they're still going to ask why I'm leaving.  Companies whom I interview with will surely ask why I'm leaving such a great company.  What do I tell these people?

Thanks.

Don't tell them ANYTHING

Don't tell them ANYTHING about the bad boss, EVER.  PERIOD.  It's not appropriate, ever.

You can simply say that you regularly test the market, as part of managing your career, and realized you had found something that was better for you.  Then mention 1-2-3 things of the new opportunity that you prefer to where you were (boss not included).

Focus on the good of where you're going, not the bad of what you're leaving.

Mark

I appreciate

I do appreciate these podcasts on bad bosses, even if they were long. I am just looking forward to the one on the boss who is focused so much on short term goals (to make himself look good), and therefore keeps demanding results that take time to deliver.

In this podcast, you made reference to the Managing Upwards podcast. I am a premium suscriber to Career Tools, but I can't access to that premium contact because it is in the Manager section. Any way to get access to that?
