Today we cover the 2nd part of our series on Preparing For Your Review. After you've listened to the podcast, I think you'll agree that if you follow this simple process you will be in a position to not only get the best possible review possible this year, you will also have all the information you need to improve your performance (and your next review!) over the coming year.
And, as a reminder, you'll find a number of documents to assist you in this process in the Tools section under Preparing for Your Review Documents.
- A complete transcript of the entire show
- A Powerpoint presentation (in PDF form) with a detailed outline of the review preparation process
- A detailed note-taking form to guide you through the process.

As an alternative to Google Desktop Search, you might want to try Windows Desktop Search, which much better than the built in Windows Search and integrates better than GDS.

Hi Guys
I am writing from Birmingham in the UK and I have just recently discovered the "Jewel of inestimatable value" called manager tools!
I am not sure if you can help but I will appreciate some help.
My wife is preparing for an interview later this week - she is been out of work for nearly a year.
Do you guys have any tips or can you direct me to one of your archived podcasts on preparing for interviews.

Sorry it's not on our site, but if you Google my name, "Mark Horstman", the first cite that comes up has a 3 part video on it of a 2 hour speech I gave on interviewing at Kellogg, the MBA school at Northwestern University.
It's where I send my friends. ;-)

You guys have put me in a real pickle. My boss listens to these casts, so now you have increased his expectations for my review preparation. I only thought I was doing a good job of preparing before! Guess I better get started!

I have been watching this series. You mentioned a phone interview "How to" list that has evolved over 20 years. Is that a resource you plan on making available here?
Thanks
Jeff
Yes, Jeff - We'll post it here shortly.

Hi guys,
This podcast couldn't have come a more opportune time. As I prepare for my review, this show was the icing on the cake. Thanks for the impecable timing, it's like you read our minds or something.

Hi, I wish I had listened to this
Hi,
I wish I had listened to this earlier. Of course, I am behind in preparing. I am in a newly formed role for about a year now. The role description does keep changing, and that's a good thing. I have taken your advice by gaining comittment mid-year on priorities.
This worksheet and your other powerpoints, templates, etc materials are the key to what sets you guys apart. Keep up the great work. You are truly giving us TOOLS, not just lip service around what things should look like.
Thank you!
JOE F.

Mark - on 8/16 you made a post saying you'd post your phone interview tips. Did you and if so could you please point me to it.
Thanks in advance
btw. you guys are the bomb (to borrow a term from my daughter)
Really give my manager the package?
I absolutely love these podcasts. I'm addicted! Thank you guys for providing us with so much valuable information. I tend to listen to your podcasts at night before I go to bed and I get so excited and motivated about the next work day, it's amazing.
I'm a fairly new manager and stil pretty young so I need all the advice I can get. I really enjoyed listening to the performance evaluation podcasts but I'm doubting wether I should give the package to my boss and how she will react to it.
Last year's review was done roughly 2 months after I had started the job and needless to say it wasn't a very positive evaluation since I had almost no experience at all.
I have been making notes of my successes like getting my real estate license, which was required for the job, but knowing my boss, I don't think she will appreciate me providing her with information about how I think I did. Is it immature of me to think that I don't want her to think I'm narcisistic? Am I thinking too much about this?
From past experience I think she would tell me she appreciates my effort on this but ultimately, she doesn't need anyone to tell her what to write. I'm worried that I will look like an idiot doing this...
Instead, should I note my accomplishments in the "Comments" section of the performance review form?
I would really appreciate guidance on this.
Thank you in advance.
