This guidance tells you how to potentially get some informal self development guidance from your manager by asking three simple questions.
Almost every manager wants more performance communications from their boss. But very few bosses give it. If you’re a manager, and you have thoughts about further managerial roles or executive life, what can you do to politely and professionally get some insight into what your boss thinks about your abilities?
Ask her three simple questions.

Great podcast
Thanks, guys! It was awesome, as always!
I'd only wish I'd heard this podcast before talking to my ex-boss a week ago!
But the podcast is a great thing for correcting my behaviour for the future.

This stuff really works!
Thank you, M-T team, for giving practical, actionable and effective recommendations. I followed the recommendations in this podcast and got exactly what I was looking for!
I recently re-listened to this cast to prepare for a meeting with my boss. I requested some of his time specifically to get his ideas for my own professional improvement. He never gives feedback, even during performance review meetings (which have been sporadic at best), so it was up to me to pull the information out of him. There were no surprises among his answers, but it didn't come across like he was pulling any punches, either.
Now I'm developing an action plan to address the main issue he brought up and I'll be following up with him in 3-6 months for his assessment of my progress.
Thank you again for sharing your experiences with us!
