Getting A Bad Review

This cast gives our guidance on dealing with a bad review.
We hope this never happens to you. But like being fired, getting a bad review is not fatal. It is something you can get over, if you have a plan. And, like being fired, when you look back on it, it can turn into the best thing that ever happened. That's not to say we want you to aim for a bad review – but we want to give you guidance on what you do when you get one.
If you have never had a bad review and don't intend to, keep listening. There's another way to use this guidance at the end of the cast.

Unreasonable Expecations
I was excited about this topic when I saw it appear on my Podcast application. However, it didn't address the questions that came to mind. And that is, how do you respond when you feel that regardless of you accomplishments and hard work, you never "exceed expectations" of your boss? The examples given in the cast were very obvious that the person didn't meet expectations. However, if you mix it up a bit and say that this person 1) accomplished more than what was documented, 2) worked 60-80 hrs a week, had 3) excellent feedback from all her clients, was 4) respected by all her peers and 5) continually makes personal sacrifices for the sake of her company, and the review just "meets expectations" of her boss? Needless to say, she considers this to be a "bad review" and will likely feel the urge to express her disagreement. How can she challenge her boss when she clearly doesn't agree with his assessment?
