Today we cover the second in our 2-part series on mentoring. As a reminder, our 7 simple guidelines for mentoring are:
- Whom Should I Ask?
- How Long Should It Last?
- You Make the Ask
- How Does It Work?
- You Run It
- The First Meeting is Critical - Script It
- Be Ready For Feedback
Also, June 26th represents the 1-year Anniversary of Manager Tools. We previously discussed having a special second part of today's podcast where we would discuss our thoughts about this last year, as well as discuss our plans for the coming year. Unfortunately, the "discussion" was an hour long! So, rather than bundle it with this podcast and create an incredibly large download, we will release an additional podcast in the next day or two with that discussion. Look for it in your podcast player of choice shortly!

Hi Mark and Mike, Way back you
Hi Mark and Mike,
Way back you likened management to the movement of tectonic plates. Now that may be the case but it doesn't apply to your cast. Manager Tools is fast moving, entertaining, cool and really useful. In a geological nutshell Manager Tools rocks!
Happy birthday and thank you for 1 year's worth of freely given, practical wisdom.

Congratulations Michael and Mark on your anniversary. There's a definite reason why you guys are in Podcast Alley's top 10--and it's not your sexy voices.-)

Believe me, we know our voices are nothing to shout about. I don't even like listening to the casts after we're done.
We look forward to many more years of serving you and the worldwide community of managers.

Thanks for the great podcasts - I only recently found them but am listening my way through them. I'm not (yet) in management, but am still able to apply many of the processes you discuss.
My question about mentoring is: I telecommute. Do you see any issues with selecting a mentor who I would not be able to meet with face-to-face on a regular basis (possibly annually or semiannually)?
Kind regards.
thanks for keeping these
thanks for keeping these podcasts up! I see that they are about 3.5 years old and I'm going thru them now, and soaking up some good info! cheers, b&e
