We designed this series to give you all you need to know about interviewing in order to get the job you want.

Over the next 6 weeks, we're going to send you even more information to help you get the offers you want.

One of the repeated myths about interviewing is that the interviewee has any control over the timing, the process or what happens in an interview. Guidance telling you to 'take control' of the interview is WRONG. When you try and give the interviewer the answer you want them to hear, rather than the answer to their question, the interviewer is often frustrated. Interviewers don't select candidates that frustrate them!

When you're asked a question, answer the question you're asked. Even if it's 'illegal'. It's possible that your interviewer is unwise or inexperienced in interviewing, and much more likely that is the case than that she is genuinely discriminatory.

We have more on answering 'illegal' questions here.

If you're worried the interviewer will never ask the questions which allow you to demonstrate what you can do, we have the answer to that too.

We'll be back next week with more practical guidance.
