One more thing you'll want to take notes on - your performance. When we talk to professionals who are ready to change their jobs, one of their regrets is not taking notes about their performance. If you don't know how well you did, specifically, with measurements, creating your resumes is MUCH harder. So help your future self out, and take notes on your performance each month.

Create a Career Management Document. It makes creating your resume, and tailoring it for each job you apply for, really easy.

It's a document with a title for each role you've held, the dates and the company name. Underneath is a paragraph of all your responsibilities and underneath that a bulleted list of your accomplishments. For those of you who have seen our sample resume, you'll be thinking the CMD looks a lot like that. And you'd be right. The difference is that the CMD can be as long as it needs to be.

Each month, quantify your accomplishments. How much code did you write? How fast did you complete your tasks? How many tasks did complete? How did you contribute to the team? What ideas did you have?
