I did a phone interview for a project manager job and the HR person called me

up and said that I was his number one cadidate.  Unfortunately, it was a qualifiying list only and he told me there would be some opportunities coming up soon.

But in the meantime, he wants me to fly down so he can introduce me to some executive directors hoping that will spark interest.

I don't know what to do.  He told me, "you don't have to do it, but if you happen to be in the area, I'd like to arrange a meeting and introduce you to big directors here."

Should I wait till I get an official second interview or go down there on his invitation?

I'm a little intimidated because meeting the big shots will probably turn into or feel like a second interview because I'm sure they will ask me about myself, my accomplishments, background etc.

If I go down there thinking it is going to be casual.. it probably won't be.

I've never had to face such a choice.. any comments of illumination is appreciated.

I know the manager tools saying.. "till you got something, you got nothing".. so it is not

a job offer at all ... not yet..

Everything you do with this company is an interview.  Even if it feels like a casual introduction.  In fact you are being analyzed even before the introduction officially happens.

To have the recruiter want to introduce you to the directors would make me think that he could see me in some other role than what I'm applying for, maybe with more responsibility, etc...

I would never miss an opportunity to be introduced to people, especially at that level in a company.

Be sure to follow through after the 'interview(s)' with everyone you meet as well.

Nice job on your phone interview, Vishnu.
