Subscribing to Members-only Podcasts via iTunes
We have received several requests where individuals would like a little help with subscribing to the members-only podcast with iTunes.
Add the Members-only Feed to iTunes
Assuming you have iTunes installed on your computer, clicking on the button above will launch iTunes and add the Members-only Manager Tools podcasts to your subscription list.
For those who have iTunes (it can also be downloaded for free from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/), and the step above doesn’t work, follow these directions:
To manually add the Members-only podcasts the to iTunes subscriptions:
1. On menu bar, select “Advanced”
2. “Subscribe to Podcast …”
3. And then enter URL above (http://www.manager-tools.com/registered-members/rss.xml) in the dialog box that appears.
In either case, you’ll be prompted for your Manager Tools userid and password. Enter those and you’re good to go!

How do I get old podcasts from the Members only area to download to I-tunes? When I add the RSS feed, it only downloads the latest podcast. I’m probably missing a simple step that I would appreciate you pointing out.
Thanks

After you’re subscribed in iTunes, you should be able to click the triangle left of the “Manager Tools Member Cast” in your Podcast library. That should give you the list of past Podcasts where you can click the “Get” button to download the ones you want.

Am I the only one for whom it has created a Podcast called Manager-Tools Members Only but is showing all the normal podcasts?
February 23rd, 2007 at 2:43 pm
It should show BOTH the normal AND members-only podcasts.

If I understand correctly then, if I subscribe to the members-only cast, I can unsubscribe from the other one?

pmoriarty,
Yes, you are correct.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
This is wonderful. I can now get all of the MT podcasts in one place without having to mess with stuff. I appreciate this!

Excellent development. I’m glad that all the oldest archived shows are now available in one place in iTunes - excellent!

I have subscribed and have been able to download the most recent podcast and have followed all the steps above, but when I try to download the rest of the podcasts, it tries to download and has an orange round symbol to show this which then turns into an exclamation mark which says the network connection has been lost. Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong?

yvonne,
Are you trying this from home, or work? We have run into employers that block access to sites like Libsyn (where we host our files). That may be a possible cause.

Mike and Mark, I happened across you pod cast about 5 weeks ago and I downloaded ever cast available. I am very impressed with how powerful and isnghtful your presentations are. Now, to my question, I have signed up to get the memers only cast, but when I try to log in I get this message “Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection).” I am not very computer savvy, so if anyone can help? Thanks

I signed up for the members-only feed a few weeks ago, and began pulling the list of older podcasts right away. I, too, have been having problems with connection timeout, and have found that it’s been getting a bit more stable with the newer updates to iTunes.
What has happened, however, is that I have suddenly lost the non-downloaded items in my podcast list in iTunes. It only shows me the ones that I have downloaded so far (about 3/4 of them). The ones that I had not retrieved used to be lighter, and had a “Get” button, but now they don’t even appear.
Any ideas how to resolve this? I really want to get the remaining episodes.
Thanks, Steve

Yvonne/Sgrimes. The exclamation is a timeout. itunes can only donwload a couple of casts at a time. Do it bit by bit (you can check progress - if you are really bored) by clicking on the ‘downloading’ icon in the Store section of the sidebar.
Sean, don’t worry about lack of security on this site (these guys are managers not IT junkies) as long as your chosen password and username are unique and not shared with your bank account then the worst that could happen is someone hacks in to leave nasty messages on the forum.

Sean,
The message you are getting essentially means that your userid and password are being transmitted unencrypted over the net. Although as Chris points out, this generally shouldn’t be an issue … for a number of reasons, I would not suggest you use a userid/password for public forums/blog/etc. identical to that which you use for banking or secure activities.

I just bought my iPOD and started downloading. I did signup for the iTunes automatic download (it worked today). I did a print of all the shows from the archive list to check if I got everything. The 36 earliest shows did not dowload. I tried downloading them one at a time. After the first one, I looked at the iTunes file and couldn’t find that download. I thought there as a response to the post by bhojrah on 1/9/07. ericw’s response didn’t cover getting the old one’s. Is there a trick to getting the old one’s? Larry

Lpaine,
The directions for adding the new members-only feed (with ALL the shows) is at the top of this page. The members-only feed is different than the feed you’ll find on iTunes.
Hope that helps … let me know otherwise!

Mike: I had a conference Thursday/Friday and the 3 hour drive to Lawrence, KS was filled by listening to MT.
Still have a problem with not getting all the shows. I unsubscribed, deleted all the shows and then subscribed again. I get all the shows back to March 2006. From there back - nothing.
I tried going to the archive page and do a download. It starts and shows it finishes the download process. After looking at iTunes folder, I can’t see where it was stored there.

Great podcasts. Fantastic. Was just wondering: is there any way in iTunes to save the user ID and password permanently instead of being prompted each and every time ?

jrleighton,
Great question … one for which I had an answer! Unfortunately, I don’t know of a solution there. Anyone else? I think we’d ALL appreciate it.

First of all, thanks for all the great content on your podcasts. I’ve been listening while commuting to work (almost) everyday, catching up on the older files.
Is there any way to move the podcasts that I have already downloaded PRIOR to subscribing as a member to the same group of the member’s only? I wanted to save the download time and having my files neatly organized.
Thanks, and keep up the GREAT work you guys do!

I’d LOVE the ability to automatically download all of the Premium Content (both Shownotes & Outlines) at one time. Is there a way to do this?
Also - I greatly appreciate the iTunes link provided above that enabled me to auto install all of the podcasts (including the Members Only podcasts) simultaneously.
Appreciatively,
-Tom

Tom-
All thanks for the ease of use of our site go to Mike…and I THINK there IS a way to get all the Premium Content…it’s just another feed (private, password protected) in Itunes.

Tom,
You’ll find information on the Premium Content DOCUMENTS RSS feed here: http://www.manager-tools.com/2007/08/premium-content-updates/ That should get you exactly what you’re looking for!

Justin,
Yes, premium members get access to all the premium content available for both the weekly podcasts and the monthly members-only casts.

I have found that I am unable to update my last 2 podcasts and have just subscribed to the members-only podcast and cannot download any of those podcasts either.

robashdown,
Would love to help … can you give me some more details on what’s happening?

When is the next member’s podcast? It’s been since November, 2007. Is this a feature no longer supported?

Does anyone know how I can “unsubscribe” the members only feed into my iTunes? My iTunes “locks up” in the process of loading and I suspect that the link to the feed may be the culprit as my daughter’s iTunes on same computer loads fine.
