Did i make a misstake trying to help my friend?

Should my friend have called the recruiter himself instead of me calling as a insider?

I have a friend who is graduating now and he has been looking for jobs for a while so i figured i try to help him out however i can. I work at a electrical utilities company and i recently found out one of the consultants left his position to go traveling. I called the recruiter responsible and figured i can give her his name as a tip. He could handle the job without problems for the duration of the tenure and he has worked for the recruitment company as a consultant in the past and says he has always gotten good reviews. But when i called the person the recruitment company i got the impression me calling maybe wasn't such a good thing. I am starting to think it gave her the impression he needs me to call.
