Feedback Video

Feedback is the tool used most by effective managers, and the Manager Tools Feedback Model is our way of helping managers deliver more feedback more easily.

Below, in 15 minutes of video split into 5 parts, we share the Manager Tools Feedback Model in detail.

Clicking the video image or link will start the download of the movie file (low bandwidth mp4). For those with bandwidth constraints, other download options are also available.

06/13/2008 Update: Corrected some compression problems with the original videos (fixed “squashing” of the video), as well as added a couple of different options for those bandwidth-constrained.

Enjoy!

    Dear Mark and Mike -

You guaranteed the Manager Tools offering would grow, expand and improve this year. These videos go a long way to help my ongoing improvement of my feedback. The videos also reinforce the learning’s of the Amsterdam conference.

I look forward to the forth coming tools and brand re-launch in eager anticipation.

Thank you for last night at Pizza Express, great to see you both and the UK MTers at the meet up.

    Regards
    Rowley

    Mark and Mike,

    You finally did it !
While I can’t download your videos from here (Hospital are not the places where you find the quickest internet connections!), I am sure it will be great quality material.

    Thank you guys!

    Céd.

    Mark and Mike;

Have you thought of using Flash video for these videos? It’s just as effective, and doesn’t take up as much memory or bandwidth as MOV. Almost 98% of computers have the FLASH player! Even if you step it down to FLASH 6 or 7 version.. most people will have it!

    Thanks

    Mike

  4. derekrogerson Says:

upload your .mov to youtube please and then embed, these raw files are too big

  5. ChrisAtWork Says:

I think the videos are great but I would prefer a single file that I can keep with the podcasts. The combined file size is typical for video podcasts of this length. Flash video makes a lot of sense for people who want to watch them online.

    Keep up the good work.

    Chris

  6. US41 Says:

    Mark and Mike,

Thanks for the free videos. That you would make a video to help us at your expense and put yourselves out there for us at no charge and no benefit to yourselves other than our gratitude… I am grateful.

    Thank you.

    US41

  7. freingold Says:

Awesome, guys! Obviously you put a lot of work into it.

An an aside, I find it hard to believe that half that comments above were criticisms (direct or veiled) about the size of the files. Unbelievable. Keep up the good work; it is appreciated by most of us.

  8. donnachie Says:

Well done. Quality product as ever. Mark - you remind me of a thin Beau Bridges - time to update your avatar. Your movie drives the message home so much more than a podcast. More please …

And to all the subscribers out there …. Especially the hi D’s. Listen carefully. ASK before you give feedback. Storming in aggresivley is counter productive.

  9. agreen Says:

Videos are greatly appreciated. I have already identified some shortcomings in my delivery from it. Definitely adds to the podcasts.

I especially loved the location of the video! The backdrop of the cublicle (complete with office plant in the corner) makes it feel like this was shot “on location”. Very nice touch!

What a pleasant surprise to visit and find that there are now videos in the MT offering! I’ve just finished watching them and it’s remarkable what a difference the visual makes to driving home the message which I have heard multiple times in the podcasts.

I particularly appreciated the clear explanations on various things from ‘encourage effective behaviour’ to ‘it’s the results that matter’. In particular the realisation that even if there is push-back and the direct makes the change in behaviour that this is a successful outcome.

Many thanks for taking the time to put this together. I look forward to more such audio-visual supplements in the future where your time allows.

  13. Mark Horstman Says:

    Chris-

I look like I look all the time - avatar too. Sorry - I don’t like hearing my voice on the casts, I don’t like how I look on the video…but I really do like my little avatar. Maybe it’s being on the 8th tee at Spanish Bay with surfers in the shore break behind me!

I was logging in looking for Monday’s cast and I found the feedback videos. Great complement to the podcasts!. Look forward to more!

  15. JorrianGelink Says:

    Absolutely brilliant!

Dropped everything to get all the videos and watch them, interesting how seeing someone visually in person talking and listening to a podcast in a car COMPLETELY changes the experience, it was awesome to see you in person Mark, now I can put a face to the voice in my iPod and Zune :p Thanks would love to see more, doesn’t matter what video format it’s in!

  16. mkirk Says:

Great to see the step forward - thanks for putting in the effort. I’m not so sure about the location (am I the only one trying to work out what is written on the wall to Marks right?) and I predict that, in years to come, these first efforts will cause you both to cringe. But remember - the first podcasts are nothing like as technically advanced as the latest ones and as someone clever once said, the hardest thing is getting started - so very well done.

  17. DCochrane Says:

    Dear Mark and Mike

Thank you for providing these videos! It is very reassuring to know that I can remind myself about best practice by viewing them. As Rowley noted above they really do reinforce the learning from your truly excellent conferences. Please please offer more video, even if only to your Premium Subscribers.

    Best wishes

    David

  18. Mark Horstman Says:

    Mkirk-

Everything I’ve ever done the first time made me cringe. We are fine if everyone cringes while they’re learning. Avoiding cringing is not the same thing as seeking success.

On the cubicle whiteboard is written:

    One on Ones
    Feedback
    Coaching
    Delegation

    Meet w/ Allie

Don’t the cubicles you’ve seen have stuff written on the whiteboards in them?

    Mark

  19. cedwat Says:

    Mark, Mike,

It is really excellent. Thanks for that.

I look forward to seeing more videos and maybe advices from Mark about how to place one’s body when giving feedback, facial expressions, etc. I had the chance to see it at the Amsterdam conference. It was just brilliant.

    Best regards,

    Cédric.

  20. crimble Says:

    Dear Mark and Mike,

Thank you for making me cringe. Everytime you guys go over the feedback model (AGAIN), I realize another of my slip-up’s and I cringe. This time it was being tied to the word “feedback”. It makes me uncomfortable and I too often skip straight to step 2. Not any more. The video’s have fixed another feedback blunder.

Thanks again, and keep up the good work!

    Chris

    Mark,

As always, a HOMERUN! Thanks for all you do!

    Mais Oui.

  24. andy47 Says:

Mark and Mike, thanks very much for these, much appreciated.

Is there any chance that you could release videos via Bittorrent to ease the strain on those of us with limited download bandwidth (Bittorrent allows me to throttle the speed of down and upload), not to mention providing a wider distribution network.

    Andy

  25. Mark Horstman Says:

    Andy-

Nope, not any time soon. Sorry.

    Mark

  26. ponnamp Says:

    Mark and Mike,

I just re-listened to the original feedback podcast yesterday and watched the videos today. Both are excellent - the videos have slightly more impact for me. I do tend to work better visually than i do with audio or writing. Hopefully we will see a few more videos. Maybe the same session can be broadcast as both video and audio only feeds on iTunes. There are a couple of other podcasts that do audio only + separate video feeds - giving people the choice.

Thank you kindly for your time and effort.

    Thanks
    Anandha

  27. mauzenne Says:

We’ll look at some alternative formats for those with limited bandwidth … for the time, most likely flash.

    Mike

  28. jeroendemiranda Says:

    Dear Mark and Mike,

Thanks for sharing the video casts to us! They make even more impact than the podcast! The non verbal aspects get much better visibility, literally!

    Keep up the good works!

    Kind regards,

  29. jjohnson Says:

    Hey, Mark!

Can I share something with you?

When you make large hand gestures while giving your presentation in the video, here’s what happens. Mike needs to buy a wide screen HD format video recorder that costs more money, there is a lot of blank cubicle space in the shot, it reminds us of the cubicle farm that we spend most our lives in, and you tend to be really small in the video to compensate for it.

    Can you do it differently?

    Great!

I love the videos BTW. I look forward to DISC profiles acted out on video.

    JJ
