How To Handle Conflict With A High I

Our guidance on how to deal with conflict with a High I.

Conflict is a subject we get asked about relatively often. As Mark’s Dad says, the definition of conflict is two human beings in the same county. With 5, 10, 100, 1000 human beings in an organization, there’s bound to be some conflict. Each of the DiSC styles handles conflict differently. You’ll be more effective if you understand the conflict from the other person’s point of view – you might even get to the holy grail of a win win situation.

high I´s think talking!

I love this podcast! This is so much myself!  Unbelievable.

I had a conflict with a high C collegue a long time back and as I was arguing with him, I told him: "I agree with you."  "But but you were not in agreement with me at the beginning of this conversation.", he said.  To which I replied: "I know, but you convinced me, you changed my mind!"  He didn´t say anything but I could almost read his mind: "You must have changed your mind all by yourself because there is no way I could have convinced you this fast!"  It never crossed my mind that for him the issue could not have been solved so quickly.

Before listening to this podcast I hadn´t quite grasp that what could be resolved in my mind, perhaps was not as resolved in somebody elses even with me telling them it had been resolved!

The high-I´s "think while they talk" is so much me!  I am exercising not doing it though, perhaps because most people around me are not high I´s and they don´t really understand that thinking process.  The high D´s say I loose time talking and confuse people, the high C´s think I don´t think things through properly (and I probably don´t), and the high S´s feel I am too accelerated, I need to calm down (which I probably need as well).

Hearing this podcast is like "looking into the mirror and seeing oneself".

Nara's helpful summary of the high I

Nara, thank you for that post. It helped me see myself properly as having strong I characteristics. I certainly think while I talk often times. I have some strong C tendencies as well though, which may be why I self-correct so often while I am talking ("I am not thinking this through properly" is how I could characterize my thoughts when this happen). At the same time, I love meeting new people, talk while I think, and talk fast when I feel pressured or am excited.
