Job Boards - Part 2
This cast concludes our guidance on how to use job boards as part of your search.
Job boards tend to be the first place that people go to when they first start thinking about transitioning to a new role. It's easy to get sucked into activity on job boards and feel like you're doing something, when actually, they're not the be all and end all of job search strategies. Far better that you spread your energies between your network, research, contacting recruiters and job boards.
That said, in this cast we're going to tell you how to use the job boards effectively, what to do and how much effort to put in.

Job Boards Casts
Great casts as always.
Regarding the 'you must create a profile advice', what about someone who prefers to keep her job search secret from her current employer?
Thanks in advance.
At least do LinkedIn
Well, at least do LinkedIn. Because LinkedIn is a "social" site in the way Monster or CareerBuilder is not, there is less risk that way. Your boss may very well be on LinkedIn.
For any site you chose, be it LinkedIn, Monster, RentAChemist.com, whatever, DON'T check the box for "Actively seeking employment right now." If your boss finds your profile and sees that box checked, it's going to create tension.
Have a sentence ready to go in case your boss stumbles upon your profile and asks you about it. "Well, boss, please don't worry about it. I keep up to speed on LinkedIn and some other career-oriented sites so I can stay informed about current trends in the industry. The economy has been terrible, and I wanted to update my profile so it would be ready for a rainy day."
BUT: Be aware that you may never get to give your boss a slick "pay it no mind" answer, because your boss may not feel comfortable asking you about it. He/she may just draw conclusions. That's unlikely, that's unfortunate, but that's certainly possible. It's up to you whether the risk/reward mix is right.
Suggested Job Boards
Are there any job boards out there people recommend? I have about 15 years experience in the IT field and I live in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
