Manager Tools Recommended Actions Calendar

in

One of the questions we often get is.. 'you tell us we have to do all
these things at different times, how am I supposed to remember it
all?'. Well, to start the new year off on a good foot, we'd like to
announce: The Manager Tools Recommended Actions Calendar! This lists
all the activities we recommend you do weekly, monthly and quarterly
and we will update it whenever we recommend something new. You can
add it to your personal calendars at work or at home following the
instructions below, or access it on the web here:
http://www.google.com/calendar/hosted/manager-tools.com/embed?src=manager-tools.com_e1r0nndlllghibvibieo21h69o@group.calendar.google.com&ctz=Europe/London

We are sure you'll appreciate being reminded of all the regular
activities which will make you a more effective manager and individual
contributor. We've included the link to relevant podcasts in the
notes for each entry.

Add Recommended Actions to your Google Calendar:
1. At the bottom of the calendar list on the left, click the Add
down-arrow button and select Add by URL.
2. Copy and paste
https://www.google.com/calendar/ical/manager-tools.com_e1r0nndlllghibvibieo21h69o@group.calendar.google.com/private-62c02a47e0e96581c85fd4e444026c76/basic.ics
in the Public Calendar Address field.
3. Click Add.

https://www.google.com/calendar/ical/manager-tools.com_e1r0nndlllghibvibieo21h69o@group.calendar.google.com/private-62c02a47e0e96581c85fd4e444026c76/basic.ics

add the events to an existing calendar or create a new one.
3. All done.

Import Recommended Actions to your Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (be warned - as far as we know, it's impossible to make changes to these entries once they are in Outlook AND you have to delete them one by one. 1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2007.
2. Click the link
https://www.google.com/calendar/ical/manager-tools.com_e1r0nndlllghibvibieo21h69o@group.calendar.google.com/private-62c02a47e0e96581c85fd4e444026c76/basic.ics

2. Now, do one of the following:

3. Click Upload.

We had some help from our friends to make this, so thank you to everyone who contributed.

Fantastic summary

There's quite a few things there, for someone still getting started, this sort of summary is an excellent check-list as I incorporate these tools into my work. Thank you.

We're glad you like it. :-)

And thank Trevorp for making it useful to even more people!

Wendii

Wow! Above and beyond!

What an amazing help. Such a tangible way to start the New Year off right! I'm not near my computer right now and just itching to get this in there! Trevorp that you for your list as well! I am missing "one kind thing" on that. One of my favs - Happy New Year everyone!

Thanks Janet

One Kind Thing added to the calendar :-)

Wendii

Brilliant!

Adding this info to iCal and GoogleCalendar was a stroke of genius!

Thanks Wendii

I can't remember how I used to do this without manager tools' insight. I'm sure I did it much less effectively!

thanks!

And an especially big thank you to whoever had to input all that info and links--that had to take some time.

Yahoo calendar?

This would be really useful.  Any chance you can make this work with Yahoo Calendar?

Hi Daz

We can!

Import Recommended Actions into Yahoo calendar
1. Copy https://www.google.com/calendar/ical/manager-tools.com_e1r0nndlllghibvib...
2. Now, do one of the following:
Create a new calendar for these events by clicking the “+” next to “Calendars” on the left side of the page. Then click Create New Calendar.
Open an existing calendar, click the triangle next to the Calendar’s name on the left side of the page, then click Edit Calendar.
On the right side of the page, paste the link you just copied into the “Browse” window.
3. Click Upload.

Enjoy!

Wendii

Thanks- Google Calendar

Wow this is cool enough that it actually brought me to post something, I tend to be a lurker more than a poster.  Thanks for your work, it's appreciated, this will save a lot of time.

Thanks to Wendii and TrevorP

The meetings are already in my Outlook calendar, and the rest go into RememberTheMilk as recurring To-Dos. If this GTD stuff works the way I think it's supposed to, then they'll show up in my weekly review

Thanks Wendii & TrevorP

It's still there..

Hi SJBush,

the calendar is still there. Can you tell me what steps you're following and where you're having a problem so I can try and help you?

Wendii

Lotus Notes

This is fantastic.  Thank you to TREVORP as well.  Does anybody have advice on how to import this to my Lotus Notes calendar?

Calendar Errors

Wendii,

I'm on this site and double-click the link in #2 (when I paste in the link it's insufficient and gives me a different error "Couldn't parse path: /manager-tools.com_e1r0nndlllghibvib..."):

Alternatively, if you wish to be able to change the days that the
Recommended Actions take place on:
1. Paste this address into your browser:
https://www.google.com/calendar/ical/manager-tools.com_e1r0nndlllghibvib...
2. This will create a download and automatically open ical. Either
add the events to an existing calendar or create a new one.
3. All done.

I get an error: unable to download, unable to open the site, requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found, try again later

Thanks - I think this is a great tool,

Cynthia Gerst

Hmmm

Thank you for the explanation Cynthia. I think maybe it's because the link is abbreviated in the post and your system isn't reading the whole link. Let me find somewhere to put it where you can get the whole thing.

Wendii

Khenricks

Which version of Notes are you? You can add .ics to Notes, I just need to get you the right instructions.

Wendii

Fantasic (with a small problem)

This is a ridiculously wonderful resource. Thank you!

I am also having toruble opening the file to add to Outlook. Says that the basic.ics cannot be downloaded from Google with the error noted by Cynthia.

Those with problems...

Could you try right clicking the link and then selecting 'download linked file'. We think the copy and paste isn't taking the whole address.

Please can you let us know if that works?

Thanks

Wendii

Right clicking didn't work

Says the file could not be written to the cache.

The link is complete for me. Ends in basic.ics

Outlook users

One of our members has had success with this:

"I copied the entire link then went back and erased the https:// and left the rest."

Does that work for you?

Wendii

Firefox helped

Not sure what is up with my IE8 but pasting the URL into FireFox worked just fine.

Sikoop

I'm glad it worked eventually. I'm sorry it was so troublesome!

Wendii

 Great idea. Helpful. Thank

Activity Calendar

Removing the https: does the trick.

MT Actions - Summary Calendar - Updated

The attached document summarizes Manager Tools recommended annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily activities. Each activity is paired with corresponding podcasts in a one page table.

This updated version is based on one I prepared two years ago with Wendii, Rich Ruh, Steve Holden, Chuck Tomasi.

I emphasize this is "one off" content and not an official MT resource (as it is gleaned from recommendations in the podcasts.) I welcome feedback and notification of errors or omissions.

In the true MT spirit...it is my pleasure to serve. Enjoy.

Help with getting file in Outlook 2003

I read all the posts in this thread after running into some obstacles.  Was able to download via Firefox (IE would not), but file is only for "Set Annual Goals" recurring appointment every January 1.

I may be totally wrong as this is a guess, but I am wondering if it is because I only have Outlook 2003 at my company (Your post says for Outlook 2007).  Is there anything I can do differently to get this into my Outlook calendar?

Cheers from a longtime MT fan and devotee,

Thanks!

To everyone who did the work of making the lists!

Thank all!

Thanks again!

Desmond

Thank you and error in Google calendar

Thanks for any help.

Lotus Notes Version 8.5

Hi Wendii,

I am on Lotus notes 8.5 and tried to add the public calender in.

However, I get a error message showing: Calender Unavalible / Day_of_Month.

Any Ideas?

Thanks a lot
Thomas

MS Office

If you are ever thinking of importing this into you MS Office there is a simple way to delete in batches.  Go to Calendar view "Events".  This gives you a list that you can sort and delete as required.
