More Thoughts on Delegation

You may sometimes wonder if Manager Tools the company runs just like Manager Tools the podcast. I can tell you it does. We have one on ones, I get coached, I get feedback, and I get delegated to. Aggressively. Huge, important chunks of work come my way - often things where I'm astonished that they would be delegated at all.

There's an Einstein quote I read this morning which reminded me of this: "If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves". It's true. I am capable of so much more than I expected, and I only found that out by having it delegated to me.

So if you're in doubt about delegating something to your direct, go ahead and delegate. They are capable of more than you expect, and far more than they expect.

And if you've just had some huge, important chunk of work delegated to you, don't worry. Someone believes you can do it. Believe them. You are capable of more than you expect, and you do the world a disservice if you don't do everything you are capable of.
