Was I Tricked?

So now what I know what the dangle is, I have a sinking feeling that I was dangled and bit into it. The point I am taking from this is that the promotion at the end of the year when my co-worker retires is a guarantee. I still need to work hard and prove myself. That is just good advice anytime.

Thanks for the great content.

Now I now I was dangled..

Several years ago I was hired as an engineer but I was promised to be promoted as before the end of the year. I came from 4 months of unemployment , so I was just happy of getting the first job.
When I was interviewed by the manager and he promised the promotion even before I was hired , I remember that I made several questions.
Why the position is going to be available?
Are there any internal candidates available? If the answer is no, then ...why there are not internal candidates?
I was able to get a lot of information from the responses.
At the end, I got hired and later promoted.
