Meeting Ground Rules, an Additional Thought

A recent cast, if you haven't listened yet, is a fairly detailed explication of how to facilitate ground rules to start a meeting. As I was preparing the show notes and the slides, I realize that there's a better way to say something than we did in the show. This is "sort of" in the slides, but it's worth repeating more broadly.
Meetings stink because they are inefficient and ineffective. They're that way because of the behaviors IN the meeting. Because of these behaviors, they are expensive.
Further, meetings are a repeated process.
Repeated, expensive processes demand efficient management.
Ground rules are the best way to manage them.

Amen! We have recently started using the agendas, parking lot, and formats from the meetings casts and meetings are SO much more effective now. I wish everyone I work with ran meetings using these guidelines. In the end, we are getting more done and gave a better attitude about meetings. Thank you for the wonderful advice!
