Effective Manager Conference Dispatch #1

April 18th, 2007

I thought I would share a couple of thoughts from the Inaugural Manager Tools Effective Manager Conference.

Mike and I visited with about 20 conference participants tonight during a pre-conference dinner. There were handshakes (evaluated) all around, and a lot of excitement in the air. Maybe that sounds corny, but we were all feeling it. Good management may be boring, but learning about it doesn’t have to be.

For those that couldn’t make it, our next one will be in San Antonio in September of this year.

We can’t wait to work with the over 100 attendees, and I’ll share more as we progress.

Digg!    Stumble it!

    Mark / Mike,
    I wish I were there!

We wait for a MT Effective Manager EUROPEAN Conference and, guess what, I have a suggestion for the location: ITALY :)

There was definitely excitement in the air last night. I was speaking to another attendee who commented how much he enjoyed being a manager. At no other conference could that be said without blank stares from the other people.

This is going to be a blast!

Mark & Mike - thanks for stopping by the restaurant last night!

  4. tlhausmann Says:

    Thanks DaveTehre,

Most of us must enjoy the conference vicariously.

    Hi Mark and Mike,

I sure wish I could be there! I know Andy is excited to be a participant and will share with me. Thank you both for continuing to raise the bar on us, and for providing tools that are so useful, impactful and practical. I call your tools the “Get Serious/No Nonsense” approach to good management. You make a difference.

    Enjoy the conference!

This is a great cast. I will be attending a training session on business writing later this month. I can’t wait to compare this cast with the training I receive at work.

You know that typical afternoon conference feeling? It’s 2:00, you’ve just ate, you’re getting bored, maybe a little sleepy… you start checking your watch, maybe you cut out a few minutes early to go check your e-mail…

Not ONCE did I feel that today. Not ONCE.

Anyone who isn’t here– you only THINK you know what you’re missing.

  8. bradleymewes Says:

    Everyone,

I am extremeley jealous I’m not there. All the more reason not to procrastinate next time!

  9. yahtzee Says:

Man, am I jealous. I wish I was there. Hopefully, catch everyone in San Antonio in September. Standing by for more updates.

  10. DaveTehre Says:

    Rich, you nailed it!

Not to make it worse on those that aren’t here… but talk about edge of your seat excitement today. What an amazing first day.

I guess it was a good morning to have BlackBerry go dark. I didn’t check e-mail all day.

  11. PierG Says:

And … I hope there will be some casts coming ‘live’ from the conference, won’t it?

Sitting at Dulles airport waiting for my flight back to Amsterdam. Man, am I excited after the two most valuable days in my professional career! Dan and I bumped into Mark and Travis at the airport. Folks, you gotta believe me. After two 7:30am until *late* days you would think Mark would want some time for himself, traveling home. Not. 30 seconds into the conversation Mark was again sharing and teaching!

To all of you out there that missed it: make sure to be on the next conference (or the next, or the next). This will *definitely* make a difference…

Thanks Mark, thanks Mike, thanks Laura, Cathy, Travis and Michael: you rock!

  14. harry Says:

No frills - short, simple and direct. KISS at work. Love it.

  15. george Says:

These 2 days were GREAT! - If you didn’t go, do all you can to make it to San Antonio is Sept.
Ronald above captured the essence of conference and of Mike, Mark and all the great people around them.

    Cheers!

  16. Mark Horstman Says:

    Ronald and all-

You are too kind. Mike and I had a ball, and reminded ourselves why we do what we do.

    Mark / Mike,

Great shows and would love to see you both in the UK. Are there any plans to come this side of the pond ?

    Stu

  18. Mark Horstman Says:

    Stu-

Yes, but no dates yet. We hope to make it over next year, as we did to Germany last year.

    Mark

  19. ronh Says:

Any chance on a west coast conference in the future say LA area???

I would love to attend, sounds like April’s conference was a great success.

  20. Mark Horstman Says:

    RonH and all-

There are chances for conferences in many places, but we’re generally not thinking of going everywhere, thanks to the ubiqutiy and ease of air travel.

    Mark
