New Members-Only RSS Feed
February 23rd, 2007We are pleased to announce the availability of our new members-only RSS feed!
So, what’s so special about the new feed?
- The new members-only feed contains ALL podcasts (both recent and archived)
- Not only does it contain all the regular podcasts, it contains all the members-only (monthly) podcasts. Yep, that’s right; ALL the podcasts in a single feed.
- And the obvious point, it’s available only to registered members.
The URL for the new members-only feed is: http://www.manager-tools.com/registered-members/rss.xml. Plug this into iTunes or your podcatcher of choice — other than being asked for your Manager Tools userid and password, it will work as usual. If you have questions on how to add the new feed to iTunes, we’ve updated the members-only subscription instructions page with the new URL.
We hope this makes your Manager Tools life just a bit easier … let us know how it works for you!
regards,
Mark and Mike

I tested this for Mike and have been using it for the last few weeks. It works well and it’s great to have all the casts in 1 easy to manage collection.
Thanks Mike

This is fantastic.
Thanks Mike and aspiringceo and any others who contributed to make this happen.

If you use an online aggregator such as Bloglines and then download the files yourself, it’s a little tricky to learn how to use the new password protected members only feed.
For Bloglines, the format is:
http://username:password@http://www.manager-tools.com/registered-members/rss.xml
(Username:Password@the feed location from MT)
I understand that this will work for other aggregators (Newsgator Online) but I haven’t tried it. If you publish this in an OPML feed or make the link public, you may be exposing your MT user id and password.

Mark and Mike,
This is a great idea. Having downloaded all podcasts to date, this will now create a third feed in Itunes for me.
Can anybody tell me how I can consolidate all these downloads into the new feed without having to download the podcasts again?
Thanks
Frankie

Frankie (fchalif),
I have the same problem. iTunes does not let you simply drag and drop individual podcasts into the podcast list. A previous post I read someone offered the following suggestion:
Create a Playlist called “Manager Tools” (or whatever you decide to call it). You can then add individual casts to the playlist. This does require some manual intervention, though, when new casts come out. If someone knows a better way, I’m sure we’d both be open to hearing.

My recommendation would be to create a Smart Playlist called Manager tools that matches against an Album that contains “Manager Tools”. That way when new podcasts are added, they will automatically be updated in your playlist.
One thing that has been helpful for me was to rename all the podcasts with the Year-Month-day in front of the title and print a complete listing of all the podcasts off the website for use in the car.

That way all I do is look up the year, month and day of the podcast I want and turn to it quickly on the IPOD when stopped at a light, etc. Hope this helps.

I use QuickNews on a Palm TX as my RSS feeder and unfortunately the link does not work as I do not have the opportunity to “log-In”. Works fine on the laptop however.

Excellent.
Another thing that would be *very* useful would be to put into the XML stream each of the file attachements eg DISC_Basics.pdf
I believe the HTML/XML code for the attachment is just a standard HTML anchor and it should just appear in iTunes at the same time as the MP3
thanks

This is great. I was having some technical difficulties getting the older shows onto my I-Pod. I just went in and updated I-Tunes for all the old shows I want to retain. This is very helpful.

The Part 2 of Answering Questions in a Presentation isn’t appearing in this feed… I see in on the site, but not the feed..

Happy it’s made public! I also tested it and find it really handy. I deleted the other 2 feeds and redownloaded all the old ones as I was finding it hard to remember which ones I had already.

Mike, this is awesome! Thanks for taking the time to do that… and for putting all of them in this feed!

I just wanted to add a thanks in here as well. It is incredibly nice to have one single list of podcasts to go through. I’m somewhere in 2005 still I think, but I’ll catch up someday.

Thank you to all involved. It is nice having everything is a single feed and having easy access to the older material.

Dear Mark and Mike,
A brief note to thank you for such a useful service. I work in the UK and have recently been promoted to a management position. Your podcasts have given me invaluable advice on how to deal with most management issues that one could encounter. And, most importantly, they provide entirely practical methods for ensuring effective management. This is the stuff you never get taught. Thanks again and please keep up the good work.
Regards,
Paul

Dear Mark and Mike,
This service is very usefull : it allowed me to “get the full picture” of your advices and tools.
I wanted to thank you for your fantastic work : it helped we a lot.
Your way of using DISC was really a big “ahah !” for me. I realized I was trying to influence people actions by always using a way that would “speak to ME”. I was bumping against this problem and did not understand why they could not “understand” what I was asking for !
I now see that the company can benefit from different styles IF we find a way to coordinate and communicate together. And, as a manager, I now understand I am the one who has to change his way to communicate.
I have also initiated O3 and feedback for my directs. Some people do this kind of communication “naturally” … Not me. It helps so munch …
I have also presented those tools to one of my managers (a high “D” who’s got some management problems). It is just starting to implement 03 and feedback this week …
Thanks again.
Cédric.
